This article describes the Electricity Usage report, which exports the electricity meter charges posted to reservations within a selected date range as a CSV file.
Overview
The Electricity Usage report is a CSV export that lists each electricity meter charge posted to a reservation account, together with the reservation, guest, Area and meter reading details for that charge. It is used by properties that bill guests for electricity through Utility Meters, to review and reconcile meter charges outside RMS.
The report has no on-screen preview. Selecting Export to CSV downloads a file named ElectricityUsage_[From date]_[To date].csv (for example ElectricityUsage_20260101_20261231.csv). The report can also be set up as a Scheduled Report.
Tip! If you need a printable summary grouped by Area rather than a CSV export, see the Electricity Consumption Report article, which covers the printable report generated from Utilities > Meter Processing > Electricity.
Please Note! RMS is highly configurable. Some Terminology, User Access & Permissions, Images, Labels, and Functions used in these articles may differ from your setup. CLICK HERE to find out more.
Use Cases
The Electricity Usage report suits properties that process electricity meter reads and want the charge and reading detail in a spreadsheet.
- Reconcile a billing period - after processing meter reads, the accounts team exports the period to check each charge against its start and end readings.
- Review long-term and short-term usage - the LongTerm column separates electricity charged to Long Term Reservations from short-stay reservations.
- Analyse usage outside RMS - the CSV file can be opened in a spreadsheet to sort, filter or total consumption by Area, Category or guest.
How to Access
In the side menu of RMS, go to Reports > Management > Reservations > Electricity Usage.
Report Options
The Electricity Usage report options control which electricity meter charges are included in the export. The Report Options panel has no More Options section.
| Report Option | Type | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Date | Date range | Today | Includes electricity meter charges with a transaction date in this range. Preset ranges (for example This Month or Last Calendar Year) and a Custom Range are available. |
| Property | Multi-select | All Selected | Limits the report to reservations at the selected properties. Only shown on databases with more than one property. |
| Category | Multi-select | All Selected | Limits the report to reservations in the selected categories. The label follows the property's Category system label. |
The panel also has three buttons: Export to CSV downloads the file, Schedule sets up a Scheduled Report, and Exit closes the report.
Column Headers
The Electricity Usage CSV file contains the 33 columns below, in this order, with one header row. Six headers follow the property's System Labels, so they may read differently in your database (for example Room and Room Type instead of Area and Category). Where a value depends on a wider rule, the Source / Calculation column points to Data Sources & Calculations.

Dates are exported in the format DD-MMM-YYYY (for example 15-Jun-2026) and times in the format HH:MM:SS. Rows are sorted by PropertyName, then ResId.
Data Sources & Calculations
The following rules each govern more than one column on the Electricity Usage report.
Which charges appear on the report
The Electricity Usage report has one row for each electricity consumption charge created by processing meter reads and posted to a reservation account. A charge is included when:
- its transaction date falls within the Date range. Meter charges are posted on the property's accounting date at the time the reads are processed, so the Date range matches when the reads were processed, not the reading dates or the stay dates.
- it was posted as an electricity meter charge. Water and gas meter charges are not included, even when posted to the same account.
- the reservation belongs to a selected Property and Category.
A reservation processed more than once in the Date range (for example a Long Term Reservation billed monthly) has one row per charge.
Meter readings and consumption
The meter reading columns show the readings saved with each charge when the meter reads were processed. PrevReadUnits and PrevReadDate are the previous reading, and CurrentReadUnits and CurrentReadDate are the reading entered for that processing run. ElectricityUsage is CurrentReadUnits minus PrevReadUnits, in the units the meter records.
PrevReadTime and CurrentReadTime come from the same values as PrevReadDate and CurrentReadDate. RMS saves meter read dates without a time, so these columns show 00:00:00 and do not record when the meter was read.
Charge amount
ChargeAmount is the amount of the electricity consumption charge as it was originally posted to the reservation account, calculated from the configured Meter Rates. Additional meter charges and any second tariff charge are posted as separate transactions and are not included in ChargeAmount.
Guest dwelling columns
The RVModel, RVType, RVLength and RVYear columns come from the dwelling details recorded against the reservation's primary guest, not against the Area. The columns are blank (or 0 for RVYear) when the guest has no dwelling recorded.
If the primary guest has more than one dwelling recorded, each electricity charge appears once per dwelling, so ChargeAmount and ElectricityUsage are repeated on each of those rows. Remove the duplicates before totalling the file.
