A meter reading import is an efficient way to transfer meter data for billing utility usage in a specific area.
Import Information
Information on the requirements for the Meter Reading Import available in RMS.
- The file must be imported in a comma delimited .csv format.
- Microsoft Excel is able to save using a .csv format that should match these requirements.
- The fields within this file must not contain commas.
- RMS is able to determine whether the first record is a header record or not, thus it is not necessary to strip the header record (field names) prior to the import.

Meter Type Values
A meter type refers to the specific category of meter used to measure a particular utility. The Meter Type must be imported using one of the following values:
- E = Electricity
- W = Water
- G = Gas
Date Formats
All date fields must use the DD-MMM-YYYY format (25-JAN-2025).
Import Validation
To ensure that your data is clean, consistent, and ready for the Live production environment after it has been validated and imported into the Training environment, follow these steps:
- Navigate to Setup > Meters & select the appropriate Meter Type for data review.
- Select the Property.
- Review the Previous Read Date.
- Review the Area.
- Review the Last Meter Read.
- Review the Tariff Meter Rate.
| Repeat this process with additional meter types to verify that the entire import was successful. Review the Meter Processing Utility (Utilities > Meter Processing) for the meter type within the meter read import as an additional layer of verification. |
