This article explains how to import current meter readings in bulk from the Meter Processing screen in RMS using a CSV file.
Overview
The Meter Processing Read Import allows properties to upload current meter readings in bulk using a two-column CSV file, rather than entering each reading manually on the Meter Processing Reading List. This is useful for properties that record meter reads externally (for example, in a spreadsheet) and want to transfer them into RMS in one step.
✎ Please Note: This import is for recording current meter readings during ongoing processing. To set up meters for the first time or migrate historical meter data into RMS, use the Meter Reading Import instead.
✎ Please Note: RMS is highly configurable. Some Terminology, User Access & Permissions, Images, Labels, and Functions used in these articles may differ from your setup. CLICK HERE to find out more.
Import File Format
The import file must be a comma-delimited .csv file containing two columns in the following order:
| Order | Field Name | Field Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Area | String | Y | Area number as configured in RMS (e.g. 02). Must exist in RMS. |
| 2 | Current Read | Numeric | Y | The current meter reading value for the Area. |
- The file must be saved in a comma-delimited .csv format.
- Microsoft Excel can save files in a .csv format that matches these requirements.
- Fields must not contain commas.
- A header row is optional. The import will process correctly whether or not the column headers (Area, Current Read) appear as the first row of the file.
Importing Reads via Meter Processing
The Import option is available for all three utility types: Electricity, Gas, and Water.
- Go to Utilities > Meter Processing > Electricity, Gas, or Water.
- Apply the required filters (View, Property, Category, Rate Type) and select Refresh to load the Reading List.
- Select Import from the Reading List toolbar.
- Browse for and select the prepared .csv file.
- Confirm the import. The Current Read values are populated on the Reading List.
- Select the checkbox next to each reading you want to process, then select Process from the toolbar.
- Review the calculated charges and select Apply to post the charges to the reservation accounts.
✎ Please Note: Importing the CSV populates the Current Read values on the Reading List only. A separate Process step is required to calculate and apply charges to reservation accounts.
★ Tip: If you need to enter reads for only a handful of Areas, use the manual entry method instead. See Meter Processing for the full manual workflow, including flood fill and Advanced Filter options.
