Set up a Children & Infants Stay Free Discount in RMS to automatically offset the additional charges configured for child and infant guests on a rate.

Overview

Children & Infants Stay Free Discounts are designed for family-friendly promotions. When applied to a Rate that has Additionals configured for children and/or infants, RMS automatically posts an equal-value discount at posting to offset those Additional charges, making children and infants effectively stay free.

How it works:

• RMS automatically detects the Additional charges configured for children and infants on the rate.
• An equal-value discount is posted to reduce those Additional charges to $0.
• This discount applies to Additional charges only - it does not include Packages.
• Include in base must be unticked on the relevant child and infant Additionals for this discount to apply.
  • If Include in base is ticked, those occupants are treated as part of the base people and no separate child or infant charges are generated for the discount to offset.

Prerequisites

• Child and/or Infant Additionals are configured on the rate the discount will apply to.

• Include in base is unticked on those child and infant Additionals.

   

Guide

In the side menu of RMS, go to Setup > Accounting > Discounts.

1. Select Add.
   
    
2. Enter a Discount Name.
3. Choose Use Default GL Acc Code and select an account from the dropdown, or choose Use Targeted GL Acc Code.
   (Optional) Select a Grouping.
   (Optional) Enter the minimum and maximum Nights Stay length-of-stay restrictions.
4. Set the Discount Type to Children and Infants Stay Free.
   RMS displays a confirmation message: "The equivalent value of children and infants will be applied as a discount. This does not include packages."
5. Select Save.
   
    
6. Select the Discount Access.
7. Select Apply.
   
    
8. Navigate to the Property/Category tab.
9. Select the Property.
   (Optional) Select the Category Grouping.
10. Select the Categories.
11. Select Save\Exit.
    (Optional) Navigate to the Validation Options tab and click Add to enter the specifics of when the Discount will be available.
    

Important! If Include in base is ticked on a child or infant Additional in Rate Tables, those occupants are treated as part of the base people and no separate charges are generated. The discount has nothing to offset and will not apply.

Tip! Use this discount for family-friendly promotions where children and infants stay free on qualifying rates, provided Include in base is not selected on the corresponding child and infant Additionals.

Validation Options

Children & Infants Stay Free Discounts can be limited using:

• Minimum and maximum length of stay.
• Reservations staying within a specified date range.
• Reservations made within a specified booking window/date range.
