Overview

Discounts in RMS can be applied to any charge, including rates. They can be configured with validation options and made available on the RMS Booking Engine (IBE) or as Members Only discounts.

Available Discount Types

Below are the discount types you can configure in RMS, including what each option does, how it works, and the validation settings available. Use these descriptions to choose the best discount for your promotion strategy.

Percentage

Reduce a charge or rate by the specified percentage, up to the cap amount.

Validation Options Include:

• Minimum and maximum length of stay.
• Reservations staying between a specified date range.
• Reservations made in a certain date range.
• Discount-specific options:
  • Use Total Rate is used for the cap amount.
  • Include Packages and/or Additionals in any discount calculations.

Amount

Deduct a flat amount from a charge or rate.

Validation Options Include:

• Minimum and maximum length of stay.
• Reservations staying between a specified date range.
• Reservations made in a certain date range.

BOGO (Buy One Get One)

BOGO discounts enable properties to set up Stay & Pay promotions that are specifically applicable to rates for particular lengths of stay (e.g., Stay 3, Pay 2).

How it works:

• Define the stay length and the payable nights (e.g., stay 3 nights, pay for 2).
• Optionally limit the number of cycles the offer applies (e.g., only one cycle per reservation, so Stay 6, Pay 4 would not apply unless you allow multiple cycles).
• RMS applies the discount automatically during rate calculation based on the length-of-stay conditions you set.
• The free night is calculated using the lowest nightly rate on the reservation, not the rate of the specific night designated as free.

Total Override

Total Override discounts let you create promotions where a set number of nights in the stay are capped at a total amount (e.g., Stay 5 nights for $500 total).

How it works:

• You specify the number of nights and the total charge you want to cap.
• RMS applies a per-night discount across the selected nights to ensure the total equals the value you entered, effectively levelling nightly rates across the period to honour the total.

• Reservations made within a specified booking window/date range

Children & Infants Stay Free

When this discount is applied to a rate where additional charges are configured for children and/or infants, RMS applies an equal-value discount at posting to offset those additional charges, making the children and infants effectively stay free.

How it works:

• The discount looks for applicable additional charges for children and infants on the rate.

• RMS posts an equal-value discount to reduce those additional charges to $0, based on the discount setup.

• Include in base must be unticked on the relevant child and infant additionals for this discount to apply.

  • If Include in base is ticked, those occupants are treated as part of the base people and no separate child or infant charges are generated for the discount to offset.

Nightly Rate Override

Set up promotions that cap the nightly rate for a specified number of nights, regardless of the original rate amount.

How it works:

• You enter the number of nights and the nightly cap amount.
• RMS applies a discount to each impacted night, reducing it to the specified cap for the selected number of nights.
• Remaining nights (beyond the cap) are charged at the original rate unless other discounts apply.

Validation Options Include:

• Minimum and maximum length of stay
• Reservations staying within a specified date range
• Reservations made within a specified booking window/date range

Example:
First 2 nights at $100 each, regardless of the original nightly rate.

Additionals Free Beyond X No.

Make additionals (e.g., extra children, extra adults, pets, etc.) free beyond a set base number on the reservation.

How it works:

• Define the base count for the additional type (e.g., Children base = 2).
• Any additionals beyond that base will have their charges waived.
• RMS applies the discount logic during posting to zero out charges beyond the defined base.
