How to move an Area to an inactive Category in RMS.
Overview
An Area is a physical space available for reservation within a specific Category.
A Category defines the type of physical space available for a Reservation at the Property.
An Area cannot be deleted once a reservation has been assigned to it.
The Area would need to be moved to a Category which is set as inactive. By doing this, the Area is removed from view on the Booking Chart, but the historical reservations stay in place.
It is recommended that Statistics be disabled when an Area is no longer in use in the database.

Before you begin
This guide assumes an inactive Category already exists to hold Areas that are no longer in use. If one does not exist yet:
- Create a new Category (for example, Inactive Areas). This Category is only used to hold retired Areas and will not be used for new reservations.
- Make the new Category inactive - see How to Make a Category Inactive in RMS.
- Log out of RMS and log back in so the new Category is available to select.
Â
Guide
In the side menu of RMS, go to Setup > Category/Area.
- Select Edit on an existing Category.
 - Navigate to the 'Area' tab.
- Select an Area.
- Select 'Move'.
 - Select the inactive Category created to hold Areas that are no longer in use (for example, Inactive Areas).
-
Move/Exit.
Â
Once all unused Areas have been moved, confirm the holding Category is set as inactive so the moved Areas no longer appear on the Booking Chart or when making new reservations - see How to Make a Category Inactive in RMS.
