Overview
An Interconnecting Area in RMS refers to a combined accommodation unit made up of two or more individual Areas (e.g., rooms, cabins, units) that are linked together to function as a single, bookable space.
Key Features of an Interconnecting Area
Physically connected: The individual Areas typically have internal doors or connections allowing guests to move between them without exiting to a public space.
Booked as one unit: Even though the Areas are separate in the system (and possibly in layout), they are booked together as one accommodation.
Made from existing Areas: An Interconnecting Area pulls from existing Areas in the system, often from different Categories (e.g., a 1-Bedroom + a 2-Bedroom = a 3-Bedroom Interconnecting Area).
Used to increase flexibility: Ideal for accommodating larger groups or families who want shared space but also some separation.
Example:
Imagine a resort has:
A 1-Bedroom Suite (Area A)
A 2-Bedroom Apartment (Area B)
They can be set up as an Interconnecting Area (Area C) called “3-Bedroom Family Suite,” allowing the property to offer it as a single booking option for larger parties.
Initial Combinations
The initial combination of component Categories/Areas used to create the first Interconnecting Area will determine the valid combinations for all additional Interconnecting Areas within that same Interconnecting Category.
Example:
If a 3-Bedroom Interconnecting Area is created using one 1-Bedroom Area and one 2-Bedroom Area, then all other Interconnecting Areas within that Interconnecting Category must also consist of one 1-Bedroom Area and one 2-Bedroom Area.
If different combinations of Areas are needed, a separate Interconnecting Category must be created for each unique configuration.
Important Notes
Booking by Category is not available for Interconnecting Categories because these are composed of multiple individual Areas from different Categories. As a result, a specific combination of Areas must be manually selected at the time of booking.
For Owner Accounting properties, it's important to follow the Owner Account Setup instructions for Owned Interconnecting Areas.
