Channel Allotment is one of three settings that control how much inventory RMS sends to a connected channel.
Overview
When you connect a channel in Channel Connection, you choose how much of your inventory RMS sends to it. You make this choice on the channel's Availability field, and Channel Allotment is one of three options there.
Choose Channel Allotment when you want to set an inventory quantity for this one channel, separate from every other channel you have connected.
The Three Availability Options
Most channels apply their allotment at Category level, using the lowest available allotment across the linked Rate Types. Here is what each option sends to a connected channel:
| Option | What the Channel Receives |
|---|---|
| Do Not Use Allotments (Full Availability) | All your available inventory, minus anything held back from online sale at Category level. No allotment quantity applies. |
| Default Allotment | The shared quantity you set on the Default Allotments screen. Every channel using this option receives the same figure. |
| Channel Allotment | A quantity you set for this channel only, separate from your Default Allotment figure. |
Guide
In the side menu of RMS, go to Setup > Online Bookings > Channel Management.
- Double-Click on the channel you want to update.
- Set the Availability field to Channel Allotment.
- Select Save/Exit.
- Go to Charts > Rate Manager > Control Panel to set the quantity for this channel.
Add an Allotments restriction and select this channel on the restriction. This step is where you enter the actual figure. Setting the Availability field to Channel Allotment only tells RMS to use it. See Allotments via the Control Panel for the full steps.
Please Note! Allotments you add through the Control Panel add to any existing allotment for the same date range, channel, Category and Rate Type. They do not override what is already there, and you cannot use the Control Panel to reduce an allotment. Apply your allotment to every Rate Type linked to the channel, or the channel may show less availability than you intended.
Example
When connecting to an Online Travel Agent (OTA) and want to hold back a few rooms from that channel specifically, without changing the Default Allotment your other channels use. Set the OTA's Availability field to Channel Allotment, then add an Allotments restriction on the Control Panel with that channel selected. The OTA now works to its own inventory limit, independent of every other channel you have connected.
