Split Charge allows you to divide an existing Sundry Charge on a reservation account into separate amounts and transfer portions to one or more other accounts.
Overview
Split Charge is a feature available from the Reservation Account that lets you take a single posted Sundry Charge and split it into several parts. Each part can then be transferred to a different reservation account, allowing you to manage how charges are shared among guests' reservations more accurately.
Split Charge works on individual charges already posted to an account. There are three methods for splitting a charge:
- By Amount - Split a specific dollar amount from the charge
- By Percentage - Split a percentage of the charge
- By Division - Divide the charge into equal parts
Split Charge vs Split Rate
Split Charge and Split Rate are two distinct features in RMS. Use the table below to identify which one applies to your situation.
| Split Charge | Split Rate | |
|---|---|---|
| What it does | Divides a Sundry Charge that has already been posted to an account | Distributes the accommodation rate between guests or companies before charges are created |
| When to use | After a Sundry Charge exists on an account and needs to be moved or shared across other accounts | At the time of or before rate charges are created on a reservation |
| How to access | Right-click a Sundry Charge in the account | Set up via the Split Rate section on the reservation |
| Split methods | By Amount, By Percentage, or By Division | By percentage or dollar amount |
| Setup required | None - available on any reservation account | Allow Split Rate must be enabled in Accounting Options |

Transferring to Multiple Accounts
All three split methods allow transferring to multiple accounts in one operation, but the Account search type must be the same (Related, Specific, In House account).
If you need to split to a different Account search type, you will need to follow the Charge Split steps again.
