This article explains what RMS Online Generic channels are, how to connect and configure them in RMS, and how to generate the unique booking URL to share with partners or guests.
Overview
RMS Online Generic channels are additional Channel Manager connections linked to the RMS Internet Booking Engine (IBE) that allow properties to create separate, private booking URLs with different rate mappings.
Each generic channel generates a unique IBE booking URL. By mapping specific Rate Types to a generic channel, properties can share a dedicated link that only shows those rates — separate from the public IBE. This is suited for:
- Corporate clients with negotiated rates
- Travel agents and wholesalers
- Promotional or group booking links
Multiple generic channels can be active at the same time, each with its own URL and rate mapping — for example, RMS Online Generic Channel 1 for corporate rates and RMS Online Generic Channel 2 for a promotional campaign.
Prerequisites
- The Channel Manager module must be active on the property.
- The RMS Internet Booking Engine (IBE) must be connected and active.
- The Rate Types to be offered on the generic channel must already exist in RMS.
- RMS Online Generic channels must be available in the property's Channel Management list. If the channel does not appear, contact the RMS Sales team to confirm it is included in your subscription.
Connecting an RMS Online Generic Channel
- Go to Setup > Online Bookings > Channel Management.
- From the channel list, select the RMS Online Generic channel to connect (for example, RMS Online Generic Channel 1).
- Map the relevant Categories and Rate Types to the channel. Only the Rate Types mapped here will be visible on the generated booking URL.
- Save the channel configuration and ensure the channel status is set to active.
Generating the Modified URL
Once the channel is configured, use the URL Generator to obtain the unique booking link for the generic channel.
- Go to Setup > Online Bookings > Online Options.
- Select URL Generator from the left-hand menu.
- In the IBE Link URL dropdown, select the generic channel. Each generic channel that has been connected in Channel Management appears here as a separate option alongside Property and Enterprise.
- The URL field updates to display the unique booking link for that channel.
- Click the copy icon to copy the URL to your clipboard.
The URL follows this format:
https://bookings.rmscloud.com/Search/Index/{hash}/{channelId}/
The standard property IBE URL uses a channel ID of 1. Each generic channel has its own assigned channel ID — this is the part of the URL that changes, ensuring guests using the link only see the rates mapped to that specific channel.
Sharing the URL
Once you have copied the URL, share it directly with the intended recipients — for example, embed it in a corporate booking portal, send it to a travel agent, or include it in a promotional campaign. Guests who access the URL will see only the Categories and Rate Types mapped to that channel when searching for availability.
Availability and Rate Data
The following table shows how data is exchanged between RMS and an RMS Online Generic channel.
| Data Type | Direction | Frequency | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Availability | RMS → IBE | Real-time | Live availability for mapped Categories is displayed on the booking URL. |
| Rates | RMS → IBE | Real-time | Only the Rate Types mapped to the generic channel are shown. Other rates are not visible on this URL. |
| Reservations | IBE → RMS | Real-time | Bookings made via the generic channel URL are created in RMS immediately. |
| Cancellations | IBE → RMS | Real-time | Online cancellations (if enabled in IBE settings) update the reservation in RMS. |
Operational Notes
- A generic channel that is not mapped to any Rate Types will not display rates on its booking URL — always verify mappings before sharing the URL.
- If a generic channel needs to be removed from a property, follow the same process as any other channel — see Disconnect a Channel.
- Booking activity from generic channels appears in RMS channel reports and logs alongside other connected channels.
- Rate Types mapped to a generic channel can be updated at any time through Channel Management. Changes take effect immediately on the booking URL.
