Learn how Blind Refunds work in RMS, which allow refunds without linking to an original transaction, and the gateways that support this feature.
Â
Overview
Blind Refunds are available to customers using BridgePay (BridgeComm), OpenEdge, or Opayo (formerly SagePay) gateways in RMS.
Once this feature is activated on your payment gateway account, it can be enabled in RMS, allowing greater flexibility in processing refunds. Specifically, it removes the restriction of only refunding the exact amount previously charged through the payment gateway.
With Blind Refunds, users can refund any nominated amount to any available credit card token stored securely in RMS, regardless of the original transaction value.

What is a Blind Refund?Â
A blind refund is a refund not linked to a specific original payment transaction in the system. It’s a manual, stand‑alone refund used when the original payment can’t be located, was made outside the system, or the account has already been cleared/adjusted.
Â
Key characteristics of a Blind Refund
- May not match or reverse a specific payment record.
- Entered manually as a stand-alone refund.
- Can be processed via cash, card, or other methods, subject to your policy.
