Overview
Easily track a guest’s stay across multiple Areas by using the Reservation Area Move with the Split Reservations feature enabled in RMS.
When a guest changes rooms (Areas) during their stay, you may need to record which dates they spent in each Area for reporting, housekeeping and charges.
The Split Reservations feature allows RMS to store each distinct part of the stay as a separate reservation segment.
The Reservation Area Move function is how you tell RMS that the guest is moving to a different Area.
When Split Reservations is enabled, using the Reservation Area Move will automatically:
Split the original reservation into multiple segments, each representing the time spent in a specific Area.
Create an “RmMove” (Room Move) cover page that links all segments and provides a single, cohesive view of the guest’s stay.
What are Split Reservations?
Split Reservations is an optional feature that, when enabled, allows RMS to automatically record the actual stay dates in each Area when a guest moves rooms during their reservation.
This feature must be enabled before RMS can automatically split a reservation into separate segments when an Area Move occurs.
For Enterprise customers, enabling Split Reservations applies to all Properties within the Enterprise account.
Not available for Owner or Trust Accounting property types (these property types use specialised owner/trust accounting setups and do not support Split Reservations).
How Area Move behaves with vs. without Split Reservations
With Split Reservations Enabled
-
An Area Move on a reservation in Arrived status will:
Automatically split the reservation based on the dates spent in each Area.
Generate an “RmMove” (Room Move) cover page that links each part of the stay and provides a cohesive view of the overall reservation.
-
Moves can be made:
Directly on the Reservation, or
On the Booking Chart, either during the stay or in advance to secure the new Area.
Supports all Area types, including Interconnecting Areas.
Without Split Reservations Enabled
If the Area is changed on a reservation in Arrived status, the guest is moved to the new Area for the remaining duration of the stay.
The reservation is not split, and no date‑based tracking per Area is created.
Alternative for Non-Split Reservation Properties
Properties not using Split Reservations (including Owner and Trust Accounting property types) can manage multi‑Area stays using a Master Reservation.
A Split Reservation is created automatically via Area Move when Split Reservations is enabled. RMS manages the linked segments and the “RmMove” cover page.
-
A Master Reservation is a manual structure where you:
Create a Master Reservation for the overall stay, and
Create separate child reservations for each Area and date range.
When to use each:
Use Split Reservations when available and enabled, and you want RMS to automatically split and link segments created by Area Moves.
Use Master Reservation when Split Reservations is not available or not enabled, and you still need to represent a guest’s stay across multiple Areas.
Reporting
The Area Moves Report provides a list of all reservations where an Area change occurred while in 'Arrived' status, within the selected date range.
