This article describes the Tourism Activity report, which generates a monthly occupancy and guest statistics summary for submission to Australian state tourism authorities.
Overview
The Tourism Activity report produces a pre-formatted statistical summary that accommodation providers in Australia submit to their state tourism authority each month.
The report captures key occupancy metrics, a breakdown of guests by Australian state or country of origin, and a daily room nights tally for cross-checking purposes.
The output format mirrors the submission forms required by Australian state tourism bodies.
Use Cases
- Monthly government reporting - Run the report at the end of each month and submit the output to your state tourism authority to meet your statistical reporting obligations.
- Occupancy review - Use the daily room nights section to verify occupancy figures before submission, identifying any gaps or anomalies in the data.
- Guest origin tracking - Review the origin breakdown to understand which Australian states and countries your guests are travelling from over the reporting period.

Report Columns
The Tourism Activity report does not use a standard column table. Instead it produces a single-page formatted summary divided into three sections, matching the layout expected by Australian state tourism authorities.
Section 1 - Summary Statistics
The top of the report displays five key metrics for the selected period:
- Total Rooms Available - the total number of room nights available at the property during the period (rooms multiplied by days in the period)
- Total Room Nights Occupied (1) - the total number of room nights occupied during the period
- Total Guest Nights - the total number of guest nights recorded
- Total Guest Arrivals - the number of guest arrivals during the period
- Average Room Rate - the average nightly rate across all occupied room nights
Section 2 - Origin Breakdown
A breakdown of Total Room Nights Occupied by the state or country of residence of the guest. Australian states are listed individually (SA, VIC, NSW/ACT, TAS, WA, NT, QLD), with an Other row for guests from outside Australia or whose state is not recorded.
Section 3 - Daily Room Nights Occupied (2)
A grid showing the total room nights occupied for each date of the reporting period. The report includes a validation note confirming that the totals in sections 1, 2, and 3 should match. A Comments field at the bottom of the report allows you to record any notes for the submission, such as changes in capacity or ownership conditions affecting occupancy.
Related Reports
- Guests By Region - provides a detailed breakdown of guest arrivals by country or region, useful for supplementing the origin data in the Tourism Activity report.
- In House Visa Expiry - lists guests currently in-house whose visa is due to expire, relevant for properties that track international guest compliance alongside tourism reporting.
