Attributes are customizable features you can assign to Properties, Categories, and Areas to help guests filter available options on the RMS Booking Engine.
What are Attributes?
Attributes are features used to filter Properties, Categories, or Areas in RMS and on the RMS Booking Engine. They highlight key features like accessibility, special views, or luxury items. For example, if you operate a resort with multiple room types, you can use Attributes to tag rooms with features such as ocean views, balconies, king beds, or pet-friendly designations.
Attributes must be applied to a Property, Category, or Area before they become available as search filters. When configured correctly, the Attributes Filter on your booking engine shows only options that match the filters your guests select.
You can also control the sort order of items on the Interactive Map by starting the Attribute description with a number and a space.
Common Attribute Examples
Here are common Attributes used in RMS to describe the physical or functional features of an Area or Property:
- Ocean view or Mountain view
- Balcony or patio
- King bed or Twin beds
- Kitchenette or full kitchen
- Pet-friendly
- Ground floor or Upper level
- Accessible features (for example, wheelchair access)
Before You Begin
Before setting up Attributes, ensure you have:
- Access to the RMS administrative setup section
- Appropriate user permissions to create or modify Lookup Tables
- Decided which type (Property, Category, or Area) you want to apply Attributes to
How to Create a New Attribute
To create a new Attribute, navigate to the Setup section in RMS:
- In the side menu, go to Setup > Lookup Tables > Attributes.
- Select Add.
- Select the Associated To field to choose the type (Property, Category, or Area).
- Enter the Attribute name in the Attribute field.
- Optionally, select the checkbox for RMS Online Filter to make the Attribute available on the booking engine.
- Select Save/Exit.
How to Apply Attributes to a Property
Once you have created your Attributes, you can apply them to individual Properties:
- In the side menu, go to Setup > Property Options > Property Information.
- Select Edit on an existing Property.
- Select the Attributes tab.
- Select the desired Attributes from the available list.
- Select the > icon to move the selected Attributes to the assigned column.
- Select Save/Exit.
How to Apply Attributes to a Category
You can also assign Attributes at the Category level:
- In the side menu, go to Setup > Category/Area.
- Select Edit on an existing Category.
- Select the Attributes tab.
- Select the desired Attributes from the available list.
- Select the > icon to move the selected Attributes to the assigned column.
- Select Save/Exit.
How to Apply Attributes to an Area
To apply Attributes at the Area level:
- In the side menu, go to Setup > Category/Area.
- Select Edit on an existing Category.
- Select the Area tab.
- Select an existing Area from the list.
- Select Edit.
- Select the Attributes tab.
- Select the desired Attributes from the available list.
- Select the > icon to move the selected Attributes to the assigned column.
- Select Save/Exit.
Troubleshooting Attributes
Attributes are not appearing as filters on the booking engine
If Attributes are not available as filters on your RMS Booking Engine, check the following:
- Verify that the RMS Online Filter checkbox was selected when creating the Attribute
- Confirm that the Attribute has been applied to at least one Property, Category, or Area
- Check that the Properties or Categories have the Attributes assigned before users can filter by them
Attribute assignments are not saving
If Attributes are not saving when you select Save/Exit:
- Ensure you have selected the > icon to move the Attributes from the available list to the assigned column
- Verify that you have the correct user permissions to edit Properties, Categories, or Areas
- Try refreshing the page and returning to the Attribute assignment screen
