This article explains why RMS rejects rate and restriction updates from Duetto with error 249 (Invalid Rate Plan) or error 116 (Invalid Inventory Code), and how to fix the mismatch.
Overview
Duetto rate update errors happen when RMS cannot match the rate plan in a Duetto decision to a Rate Type name, or its room type to a Category Code. Duetto sends rates and restrictions (Stop Sell, Closed to Arrival and minimum length of stay). If either value is not found, RMS rejects the whole message, including decisions that did match, and returns an error to Duetto.
RMS shows no error on screen. The first sign is usually Duetto reporting a rejected update, or RMS rates no longer following Duetto's decisions.
Applies to: properties with Duetto selected as the Type under the Rate Manager heading on the Rate Manager tab of Property Information.
Please Note! RMS is highly configurable. Some Terminology, User Access & Permissions, Images, Labels, and Functions used in these articles may differ from your setup. CLICK HERE to find out more.
How Duetto Identifies Rates and Room Types in RMS
Duetto identifies rates, room types and the property using three RMS values, and each must match exactly.
| Duetto term | RMS value it must match | Where to find it in RMS |
|---|---|---|
| Rate plan | The Rate Type name, not the Rate Type code | The Rate Type field on the Rate Type setup (path below). |
| Room type (Room Type Code) | The Category Code | Setup > Category/Area > edit the Category > Extra Details > Code. Duetto does not use Code 2 or Code 3. |
| Hotel code | The property's RMS Client ID | Supplied to Duetto when the integration is set up. |
To check a Rate Type name, go to Charts > Rate Manager in the side menu, select the Rates icon, then Rate Types, and edit the Rate Type. Duetto matches the Rate Type field on the Rate Type tab, not the Code field above it.
Quick Checks
The quick checks below find the mismatch behind most Duetto error 249 and error 116 rejections.
- Ask Duetto for the full error text. The value in brackets is exactly what Duetto sent, such as "Invalid Rate Plan (BAR)" or "Invalid Inventory Code (KING)".
- Compare that value with the Rate Type name (error 249) or the Category's Extra Details Code (error 116), including spelling, spaces and capitalisation.
- Check whether a Rate Type was renamed or a Category Code changed since Duetto's mapping was set up. The Edit Category screen has an Audit Trail tab.
Possible Causes
The causes of Duetto rate update rejections below run from most to least common.
Cause 1: A Rate Type was renamed in RMS (error 249)
Renaming a Rate Type after go-live breaks Duetto's rate updates for it. Duetto keeps sending the old name, so every message including it is rejected with error 249 "Invalid Rate Plan". The rename also changes the name RMS sends Duetto with reservation (booking) data.
Fix: change the Rate Type back to the name Duetto has mapped, or give Duetto the new name exactly as spelled in RMS to update its mapping. Then ask Duetto to resend its decisions for the affected dates, because RMS does not reprocess a rejected message.
Cause 2: Duetto is using the Rate Type code instead of the name (error 249)
Duetto rate plans must be mapped to the Rate Type name, not its code or an ID. If Duetto was given codes during setup, every message returns error 249 "Invalid Rate Plan".
Fix: send Duetto the exact name of every Rate Type it manages to replace the codes in its mapping, then ask Duetto to resend its decisions.
Error 249 on a Derived Rate also means the name did not match: Duetto can price Derived Rates as well as standalone Rate Types, and its decision replaces the derived calculation for those dates (see Duetto - Rate Setup).
Cause 3: A Category Code was changed, removed or entered in the wrong field (error 116)
Duetto room types must match the Code on each Category's Extra Details tab. A Code changed after Duetto mapped it returns error 116 "Invalid Inventory Code", and a code in Code 2 or Code 3 is not read. A removed Code also stops RMS sending that Category's data to Duetto, as explained in Duetto - Not Receiving Data from RMS.
Fix:
In the side menu of RMS, go to Setup > Category/Area, select the edit (pencil) icon on the Category and open the Extra Details tab.
- Make the Code field match Duetto's room type code character for character, then select Save/Exit.
- Ask Duetto to resend its decisions for the affected dates.
Other errors when Duetto updates are rejected
RMS can return other errors to Duetto besides 249 and 116, and each rejects the whole message.
| Error | Message | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 153 | Inventory Code is required | Duetto sent a rate without a room type code and must correct its message. |
| 361 | Invalid Hotel Code | Duetto did not send the property's RMS Client ID. Each property in a multi-property database has its own. |
| None | Invalid Credentials | Duetto's sending credentials were not accepted. They are not the Rate Manager tab Username and Password. Contact RMS Support. |
| 188 | No records imported | The message contained nothing RMS could apply. Check the decision with Duetto. |
| 188 | Any other error text | A general processing error. Contact RMS Support with the full error text. |
Preventing Rejected Duetto Updates
Rejected Duetto updates are prevented by keeping mapped Rate Type names and Category Codes unchanged after go-live. Agree any change to them with Duetto before saving it in RMS, and give Duetto the exact name or Code of any new Rate Type or Category it will manage.
Still Not Working?
Duetto rate updates that RMS accepts appear in the Control Panel under the user "Rate Manager", so check it for the affected Category, Rate Type and dates after a fix and resend. If Duetto still reports rejected updates, contact RMS Support with:
- The property name and RMS Client ID.
- The full error text from Duetto, including the value in brackets.
- The date and time of a rejected message.
- The Rate Type or Category involved.
Do not include passwords or other credentials in the request.
