This article explains how RMS delivers platform updates and what to expect when your system moves to a new release.
Overview
RMS delivers platform updates on a monthly cycle, moving customers to the latest version in small, controlled groups. This means new features and fixes reach you consistently and with minimal disruption.
RMS manages which environment your system runs on. You do not need to switch environments from within the platform. The RMS team handles this as part of each release cycle.
The Two Environments
RMS operates across two environments:
- Live - the stable, current release. The URL shows app (for example, app.rmscloud.com).
- RC (Release Candidate) - the next release, validated and progressively rolled out to customers before becoming the new Live. The URL shows rcapp (for example, rcapp.rmscloud.com).
How the Release Cycle Works
Each monthly release follows the same pattern:
- A new version is deployed to RC and validated.
- Customers are progressively moved from Live to RC in groups over a roughly three-week window.
- Once the version is stable across all groups, it is promoted to Live. All customers return to Live, and the cycle resets for the next release.
If a critical issue is detected during the rollout, the affected group is moved back to Live immediately while the issue is resolved. This limits exposure and means recovery is fast.
What You Will Notice
When your system moves to the RC environment, your URL will change from app to rcapp. When the version is promoted to Live at the end of the cycle, the URL returns to app. This is expected behaviour as it indicates which environment your system is currently running on.
Apart from the URL, your experience in the platform remains the same. All data, settings, and workflows are unaffected by the move between environments.
What You Need to Do
For most customers, nothing. RMS handles the entire process. There is no downtime and no interruption to your daily operations during an environment move.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Will there be any downtime when my system moves?
No. The move between environments is managed by the RMS team with no downtime and no interruption to your operations.
-
Why has my URL changed?
A URL change between app and rcapp means your system has moved between environments as part of the regular release cycle. This is expected and not an error.
-
Can I choose when my system moves?
No. RMS manages the timing of all environment moves to maintain quality and stability across the platform. If you have concerns about timing, contact the RMS Support team to find out more.
-
What if something does not work as expected after a move?
Contact the RMS Support team, available 24/7. If a critical issue is identified, RMS can move your account back to the previous environment while the issue is resolved.
-
I use Single Sign-On. Does this affect me?
We aim to make the transition as smooth as possible. However, if your account uses Single Sign-On (SSO) or has particular environment dependencies and you encounter any issues, please get in touch with the RMS Support team to learn more.
