This article describes the Stock Control Margin report, which compares the selling price and cost price of stock items to show the profit margin on each product.
Overview
The Stock Control Margin report analyses the profitability of stock items by comparing their unit selling price against their cost price.
It can show the margin on stock currently held in inventory (Stock On Hand Margin), items sold over a selected date range (Stock Sold Margin), or both together (Stock Sold & On Hand).
Use it to identify which products deliver the highest margins and to assess the total value of your stock inventory.
Use Cases
- Review inventory margin - compare the total selling value of stock on hand against the cost to purchase it, to understand the margin embedded in current inventory.
- Identify high and low margin products - sort by Margin% to see which stock items are most and least profitable.
- Analyse sales margin over a period - use Stock Sold Margin to see what items were sold in a date range and the margin achieved on each.
- Combined stock review - use Stock Sold & On Hand to review sold items and remaining inventory in one report.

Data Sources & Calculations
Unit Price and Cost Price
Unit Price is the selling price configured on the stock item (Sundry). Cost Price is the cost to purchase the item. Both are set on the Sundry item in RMS.
Margin and Margin%
Margin is the difference between the Unit Price and Cost Price per unit (Unit Price minus Cost Price). Margin% expresses this as a percentage of the selling price: Margin divided by Unit Price, multiplied by 100. For example, a Unit Price of $10.00 and a Cost Price of $6.00 gives a Margin of $4.00 and a Margin% of 40.00.
Total columns
In Stock On Hand Margin mode, Total Unit Price and Total Cost Price multiply the unit values by the Stock on Hand quantity. In Stock Sold Margin mode, they multiply by the Quantity Sold. A Grand Total row at the bottom of each group sums all numeric columns.
