Instructions and information on configuring Packages on Rate Types in RMS.
Overview
A Rate Type Package is a predefined bundle of Sundry Charges that is automatically applied to a reservation's account when a specific Rate Type is selected.
This allows you to include additional items or services - such as meals, parking, or resort fees - alongside the base rate.
More Information
Setup Method:
A Rate Type Package is configured using a Rate Type Property Rule. This rule determines how the package behaves and overrides most settings on the Rate Type itself"”except for the Rate Type Description, which remains unchanged.
Property-Level Customisation:
The Rate Type Property Rule also enables you to configure additional options that are specific to each property, offering flexibility across multiple locations in an enterprise database.

Package Components:
Each package consists of one or more Sundry Charges. These are linked with Package Options that define how the charges are:Displayed on the reservation
Applied to stay dates
Allocated in revenue reporting
Online Travel Agents (OTAs)
When selling a Package Rate through an OTA (e.g., Expedia, Booking.com):
All Package Components must be set to 'Inclusive'.
Charges apply to every stay date of the reservation.
Charges are based on the selected Sundry Charge and Amount to Charge fields.
This ensures compliance with OTA pricing models where the total package price must include all associated fees.
Package Options
When creating a package component for a Rate Type, the following configuration options are available:
| Package Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Sundry Charge | |
| Show on Account | The selected Sundry Charge for the package component will be created as an individual transaction on the account. |
| Post to Extras Account | The transaction for the package component will be created on the secondary account and not on the main account where the Rate is created. |
| Show on To Do Chart | The package component will be displayed on the To Do Chart as a Requirement for the date it applies to a reservation. |
| Show on Housekeepers Report | The package component will display on the Housekeepers Report as a Requirement. |
| Post on Next Day | Rate Packages are created on the account with the same transaction date as the Rate Amount. Post on Next Day will create the transaction for the package component on the following day instead. |
| Make Package Inclusive* |
Inclusive Packages deduct revenue from the Base Rate and allocate it to the General Ledger Account Code on the selected Sundry Charge without increasing the overall price of the rate. *Confirm the channel connection's capabilities for accepting inclusive or exclusive packages when using OTA Rates. |
| Consumption Group | Consumption Credits are Credits which will automatically apply to a preconfigured Sundry Group. |
| Exclude in Commission Calculations |
Travel Agent and Wholesaler Commissions will not be calculated for this Sundry Charge. *This cannot be used for Online Travel Agents. |
| Amount to Charge | |
| Per Period Fee | The amount entered for the package component will apply for each period (Hourly, Daily, Nightly) using the Rate Table and Apply Charge options. |
| Per Person Fee | The amount entered for the package component will be based on the number of Guests on the reservation and will charge based on the Guest Type. |
| Percentage of Rate | The amount for the package component will be calculated as a percentage of the Base Rate Amount with the option of only applying if the Rate Amount is between a preset bracket. |
| Apply Charge* | |
| Every | Charges for the package component will be created every specified period for the duration of the reservation. Every Period will create a charge for each period (Hourly, Daily, Nightly) based on the Rate Table's format. |
| On the | Charges for the package component will be created as a once off charge (Hourly, Daily, Nightly) on the specified period based on the Rate Table's format. |
| * OTA Rate Packages will only apply on every reservation date (Every Period) and cannot be setup with the above 'Apply Charge' variations. | |
Inclusive Packages
An Inclusive Package Component subtracts the package amount from the total rate, allowing the revenue to be allocated to specific components (e.g., meals, fees) without increasing the total amount charged to the guest.
An Exclusive Package Component, on the other hand, adds the package amount on top of the base rate, resulting in a higher total price for the guest.
The 'Make Package Inclusive' checkbox controls this behaviour:
When selected, the package amount is included in the rate (deducted from accommodation revenue).
When unselected, the package amount is added to the rate (charged in addition to accommodation).
In the example below, the Rate Amount (accommodation) is $100, and the Package Component (breakfast) is $25.
| Exclusive Package | Inclusive Package | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| Accommodation | $100 | Accommodation | $75 |
| Breakfast | $25 | Breakfast | $25 |
| Guest Total: | $125 | Guest Total: | $100 |
In both examples above, the $25 for 'Breakfast' is allocated to the General Ledger Account Code linked to the selected Sundry Charge. Only the revenue allocated to the Accommodation General Ledger Account Code is affected.
Inclusive vs. Exclusive Package Components:
An Inclusive Package Component redistributes revenue by deducting the package amount from the base rate, allocating that amount to the package's designated General Ledger Account Code. This does not increase the total price paid by the guest but shifts how the revenue is categorised.
An Exclusive Package Component adds the package amount on top of the base rate, increasing the total cost to the guest. In this case, the base rate revenue remains unaffected, and the additional revenue is allocated to the package's General Ledger Account Code.
You can configure a Package Component as Inclusive to allocate part of the base rate to a different revenue category (e.g., breakfast, resort fees) without raising the guest's total price.
Per Person Package Fees
An Inclusive Package Component configured with Per Person Fees uses the number of guests"”based on Guest Type"”to determine how charges are applied to the reservation account.
If the number of guests for a specific Guest Type exceeds the included quantity defined in the package setup, the system will apply the additional charges as an Exclusive Package Component, increasing the total rate accordingly.
In the example below, the Rate Amount (accommodation) is $100, and the Inclusive Package Component (breakfast) is priced at $25 per adult, with 1 adult included in the rate.
| Reservation with 1 Adult | Reservation with 2 Adults | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| Accommodation | $75 | Accommodation | $75 |
| Breakfast | $25 | Breakfast | $50 |
| Guest Total: | $100 | Guest Total: | $125 |
This configuration in RMS would be set up by selecting the 'Make Package Inclusive' checkbox, choosing 'Fees Per Person' as the Fee Structure, and entering '1' as the number of Adults included in the package.

Packaged OTA Rate
To set up a Packaged Inclusive OTA Rate with add-ons like breakfast - without deducting from accommodation revenue - use a Derived Rate based on the room-only rate, with package inclusions applied as the adjustment amount.
For example, to create a Packaged OTA Rate that includes two breakfasts:
Select the room-only rate as the Master Rate Type.
Set the Adjustment Amount to + $50.
Configure the package as Inclusive with per-person fees, including 2 Adults.
This approach ensures the breakfast package is added on top of the base room rate without reducing accommodation revenue.
Editing Existing Packages
When editing an existing Package Component on a Rate Type, RMS will prompt you to apply the changes to all current and future reservations using that Rate Type.
- Selecting Yes will recalculate the package amount on all current and future reservations where the Rate Type is applied, updating them to match the new package configuration.
-
If you prefer not to apply the changes to existing future reservations, select Cancel to exit without updating them. You can then:
Create a new Rate Type that includes the updated package values for future use.
Manually update packages on individual reservations where changes are required, leaving others unchanged.
