Overview
Release Pre-Authorisation allows you to manually remove the temporary hold on funds placed via a Pre-Authorisation Token when using RMS Pay as your Payment Gateway.
When a compatible payment gateway is used in RMS, a pre-authorisation places a temporary hold on funds from a credit card. These held funds can be applied to the reservation account using a Credit Card (CC) Pre-Auth Token.
Each CC Pre-Auth Token is linked to the reservation on which it was created and can be generated using a different card than the one stored on the guest’s profile.
If the pre-authorisation is not used, the card issuer will automatically release the held funds back to the guest. The duration of the hold is determined by the merchant, typically ranging from 3–5 business days, but can extend up to 30 business days.
You can also manually release the pre-authorisation in RMS, which sends a request to the card issuer to lift the hold. The actual time it takes for the funds to be released depends on the card issuer.
Once a release request is sent, the CC Pre-Auth Token will show a ‘Released’ status, indicating that the token can no longer be used to access the held funds.
Guide
Open the Account or Reservation in RMS.
- Select the
'Pre-Authorisation Token' icon.
- Select an existing CC Pre-Auth Token.
- Select
'Release'.
- Select 'Yes' to confirm.
The Release Request will be sent to the card issuer to remove the temporary hold of funds on the card, and the CC Pre-Auth Token will be in Released Status.
